Paris Marathon

An elite band from the 7 Sons of Serevi headed to the Paris marathon to raise money for Get Kids Going. Jake, Mick and Taj raised £2,500 between them and surprisingly all finished in reasonable times.

Some people (Mick included) will tell you its one of the most memorable and satisfying things you will ever do. Taj and I will tell you that is a load of rubbish!

It hurts so much and frankly running for 3+ hours is just boring! I should have realised it was going to be a bad day when my hastily compiled play list on my borrowed MP3 player proved to be a motivational mistake; first song on random select contained the lyrics "when there's no where left to run...and you can't go on".

To compound my misery a French lady slipped on a banana skin (yes that happens in real life apparently and not just in cartoons) and went straight through my knee to leave me crumpled in a heap at half way but with the help of the free French red wine (which was horrible), cake, cheese and cider (which were all great) handed out by nice French spectators over the last 5K we all managed to finish and that was all that counted.

When we all found each other about 5 hours after we had set off we headed to the nearest pub for a well earned drink and were promptly charged €10 for a beer!!! I think we all wished we had kept some of the sponsorship money for the bar tab! It took 4 days till we could all walk properly again...
