Whizz-Kidz
An essential part of Whizz-Kidz' future is to increase its impact by placing the importance of independent mobility for disabled children firmly on the Government's agenda and increasing public awareness through campaigning to help change many more young lives. The service Whizz-Kidz provides is not available from the NHS.
Since 1990 Whizz-Kidz has changed the lives of over 4,000 disabled children in the UK, but there are still an estimated 70,000 across the UK whose lives would significantly benefit from the charity's support. Independent movement can have a dramatic effect on disabled children, often taking them from isolation to inclusion and giving them the chance to join in with friends and family. Having independent movement from an early age is not only essential to a child's overall growth and development, but also, vitally, increases their confidence and self-esteem.
As well as equipment, Whizz-Kidz also provides wheelchair training. This is a highly important part of their work as it ensures the children are safe, but also shows them how their wheelchair can actually bring them fun and independence.
Whizz-Kidz also have Mobility Centres in Newcastle and Birmingham. These specialist centres provide families with impartial advice, information, support and training. They aim to open further centres throughout the UK so we can reach more families.
